A Wootton Bassett action group plans to lobby town councillors over Bradley Homes' plan to build houses on a greenfield site near Vowley View.

The company seeks to develop 2.63 hectares for housing.

This is its third planning application in recent weeks; others involved a mix of housing and light industrial units.

But residents have been appalled at the proposal.

They believe it will despoil the beautiful countryside around Brynards Hill.

They also claim it would seriously affect the landscape setting of the town and would pose unacceptable strains on drainage facilities, roads and public services.

"Wootton Bassett already struggles to support the number of residents that it has," said group spokesperson Georgina Mason.

Twenty-seven protesters met recently to formulate their case. They plan to be represented at the town council's planning committee in the council chamber at 7pm tonight.

Yesterday, town clerk Johnathan Bourne said: "I suspect they will be pushing at an open door, because the town council has already objected to plans to develop that area, and the reasons remain valid.

"Any application is premature, because the Local Plan has not been finalised."
