POLICE AWARDS: FOR their work on the inquiry into the crash on the A350 at West Ashton in July 2000, which resulted in the deaths of Craig Dicker, 23, of Devizes, Adam Lumley, 21 of Melksham, and five-year-old Tamara Jayne Sheppard of Compton Bassett, the following also received awards:
Chief Constable's certificate of commendation: Inspector David Bennett, Sgt Robert Young, both based at police headquarters; PC Mark Finister, of Corsham traffic department, WPC Nikki Burt, of Devizes Borough and Salisbury PC Jonathan Milner.
Chief Constable's certificate of merit: PC Michael Hills, of police headquarters; PC Clive Needs, of Swindon; PC Alan Hunt, of Melksham and DC Deborah Filer and DC Perry Watson,both Chippenham.
Tamara's older brother, Ben was left partially paralysed in the crash and will never walk again.
Following the accident, Army major Giles Stibbe, of Chipping Norton, was convicted of dangerous driving, banned for two years and fined £750. He was cleared of three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
Det Chief Supt Gary Chatfield received the Chief Constable's certificate of merit for the way he managed the inquiry into the murder of Glyne Agard at Reflections nightclub in Westbury in June 2000.
