SKURRAY'S WILTSHIRE LEAGUE: SHREWTON United, runway leaders of the Premier Division, were made to fight hard for their 2-1 victory by a youthful Corsham Town Reserve side.

United had the better of the first 45 minutes, going ahead early in the game with a good strike from Mick Casey following good work from Jessie Walters.

Brian Blake then added a second with a diving header from a good cross by Chris Walters, to give the home side a 2-0 interval lead.

Corsham began to look the better side at times in the second half, and gained a deserved reward when sub stitute Paul Southway pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time after a mistake by United's Mick Casey.

Corsham almost grabbed an equaliser two minutes from time, United's Blake clearing a goal bound shot off the line.

Trowbridge Town and visitors Melksham Town Reserves scored five goals between them in the first 25 minutes of the game.

Lee Davis netted first for Melksham, with Adam Gingell equalising direct from a free kick.

Dave Mitchell then struck twice for the home side and Kelvin Lockwood completed the scoring for Melksham with a good header.

The game ended on a disappointing note for Trowbridge when they had Mitchell sent off five minutes from time.

Biddestone got back to winning ways when they defeated Purton Reserves 4-2.

Purton took a 2-1 lead with goals from Alan Crombie and Paul Gillett, with Jason Hulme netting for the home side.

Paul Poiner then made it 2-2 and in a barnstorming finish Steve Healy and a Tim Tasker penalty gave Biddestone a welcome change of luck.

Draw specialists Aldbourne did it again, holding Devizes Town Reserves 1-1. Nathan Sheridan gave Town an interval lead but the home side equalised eight minutes into the second half through Mark Bennett.

Wroughton gained a 3-0 home win over Bradford Town, all the goals coming in the second half. Darren King converted a cross from Dave Guthrie, Stewart Philips scoring with a fierce drive from the edge of the box, and Tom Dingle chipping the keeper for a third.

Blunsdon United were without a game in the intermediate section, allowing Stratton Crosslink to edge nearer the top spot after a 2-0 win over local rivals Zarlink. Steve Townsend and Mark Langford netted.

Goals from Rick Saunders (2) and Ricky Hewitson kept Dunbar Westside in the title hunt after beating Biddestone Reserves 3-1, while Castrol and Sherston shared the points in a 1-1 draw, Phil Tweed for Castrol and Stewart Wright for Sherston.

Down Ampney and Ashton Keynes drew 2-2, the visitors equalising from a last-minute penalty by Martin Jackson. Earlier, Ian Humphreys and Nigel Clarke netted for Ampney, and Mark Curtis for Ashton.

Wanborough United and Calne Town Reserves also drew 2-2, John Sutton and Shaun Noakes for United.

The upset of the day came in the junior section where Swindon Eagles lost for only the second time this season, visitors Cricklade Town Reserves running out 5-1 winners.

Cricklade snapped up all their chances in the first half and led 4-1 at the break, adding a further goal in the second half.

Dave Lalley (2), Craig Tomkin (2) and Steve Butt were on target for Cricklade, Gary Hogg for the home side.

Wootton Bassett United are the new leaders of the section after their 10-1 win over Dunbar Westside Reserves, Paul Simpson and Gavin Wilkie completing hat-tricks, Gary Loveday (2), Danny Groom and Steve Thomas the others.

In an entertaining game at Marlborough, the home side were beaten 4-3 by Wootton Bassett A. Alan Harvey (2) and Pete Ward scored for the home side, and Aaron Lightbody (2), Steve Yeardley and Mark Botting replied.

Mark Giddings scored all three for Castrol Reserves in their win at Sporting HKQ, and bottom club West Swindon lost 1-0 Bromham.
