KEEN youngsters have given a big red tick to a thriving homework club run at Calne Library.
The club has become increasingly popular and membership has grown to 180. There are now often queues for the library's computer terminals.
The homework club was first launched when the state of the art millennium library opened in August last year.
An injection of cash from the New Opportunities Fund meant the library could earmark two staff to help the youngsters with their schoolwork.
Librarian Sue Boddington said: "We did not know what response to expect when we started the club but it has gone really well. The children seem to enjoy it and they keep coming back for more."
Because of the excellent response, Mrs Boddington is hoping to secure extra funding to boost the library's computers. Currently there are three and staff say there is demand for six.
The library's IT section is the homework club's base and as well as being able to research the library's extensive collection of written publications, the youngsters can research online and print out their efforts.
The club, which starts again on April 8, runs every day except Wednesdays between 3.30pm and 5.30pm.
Pauline Dyer, head of the county's libraries, said: "A lot of the youngsters are using the library for the first time. We have never had queues before."
