Marlborough Town Council has been told that it is unlikely the Queen will accept an invitation to celebrations in 2004 for the 800th anniversary of the town getting its charters because she has another visit to Wiltshire planned in 2003.
The council has now agreed to consider sending an invitation to Prince Charles.
