HEROIN addict Katy Williams will undergo a drug treatment and testing order in a bid to get off drugs.
Magistrates in Devizes imposed the penalty after hearing that Williams, 34, had committed four shoplifting offences to feed her heroin addiction.
Williams, of Moyne Close, Devizes, stole a CD player and a tool set from Woolworths, a DVD player from Safeway, and wine and chocolates from Budgens in Devizes.
Lois Colley, prosecuting, told Kennet Magistrates Court in Devizes on Monday that the shoplifting offences, last November and January, were seen by staff in the stores.
She said Williams made full and frank admissions to police when she was interviewed.
Williams, who represented herself in court, told the magistrates: "I have been detoxing myself slowly off heroin. I fully understand I am addicted."
The magistrates considered a report prepared by the probation service which recommended a drug treatment and testing order.
The magistrates agreed the order would be the best way forward.
It will last for 12 months and during that time Williams will be under supervision.
The probation officer will determine what treatment she should undergo, and she will be tested weekly to see whether she has drugs in her system.
Williams thanked the magistrates for imposing the order.
She told the bench: "I am willing to work towards the programme, I don't want this anymore."
