I WOULD like to enlarge on Kathleen Davies' letter Washday Blues (Wiltshire Times, March 22).
Mrs Davies refers to the 1920s, but things were not all that different in the 1950s.
Not many of us were fortunate enough to own a washing machine no disposable nappies either.
Cleaning had to be done on our hands and knees not everyone could afford a vacuum cleaner.
Cooking was time-consuming no frozen vegetables or pre-packed meals, or microwave ovens.
Shopping had to be done daily no refrigerators or freezers. We had to walk everywhere, to the shops and taking children to school only a very few people had their own car. No, we did not go out to work housework was a full time job! Even then, we were better off than our parents and grandparents, especially those in rural areas no gas, electricity or piped water. Did I hear someone mention the "Good Old Days"?
