TWO men who attempted to burgle the home of an elderly couple in Swindon are being sought by police.

Between 3.30pm and 3.50pm on Tuesday, a man called at the home of an elderly couple in Church Street, Lower Stratton, stating that a water main had burst and that he needed to check their water supply.

Police spokeswoman Alvina Kumar said: "He was allowed in and in the presence of the occupants checked the kitchen and bathroom taps.

"The woman then noticed a second man in the house. Both men then ran off. The lady then discovered that an untidy search had been made of upstairs, but nothing had been taken."

Police say the couple were left distressed by the incident.

The first man is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, wearing black jumper and black trousers. The second man is white, 5ft 7ins, stocky build, wearing a blue checked shirt.

Witnesses should contact Detective Constable Steve Rivers on Swindon 528111.
