Ambitious plans to change the look of two west Wiltshire towns have been put forward this week.
The centres of Melksham and Bradford on Avon are in line for substantial changes as town leaders try to combat the continual problems of traffic and congestion.
But of course comes the question, will these groundbreaking plans ever get further than the drawing board?
The Kingston Mill debacle in Bradford on Avon is a prime example of how good intentions are sometimes just that.
How many times can people find something wrong with schemes and plans aimed at improving the look and feel of a town centre?
These latest plans to implement a partial one-way system in Bradford on Avon will no doubt attract complaints. As will the pedestrian improvement plans for Melksham which have already attracted moans from traders and taxi drivers.
But change is necessary and traffic does not make an easy-going, relaxed shopping environment.
You can see both sides of the argument, but constructive ideas are what is needed not catty rows and in-fighting which blights so many of west Wiltshire's most promising projects.
