HOPES are high that a self-build, low-cost home scheme may begin in Brinkworth this year.
Escalating site prices have dashed similar plans for the past two years, but members of the self-build scheme intend to apply for planning approval soon for a new site in the centre of the village.
A mix of two and three bedroom semi-detached homes with garages, and some social housing, is envisaged. Some members have pulled out so there are vacancies for people with Brinkworth connections.
Group chairman Chris Walton said: "Hard work is going to be the essence of this scheme in the 18 to 24 months it will take. Every daylight hour, nearly every weekend, will need to be committed."
