Cirencester Town's late burst up the Western Division continued after Ray Baverstock's men triumphed 1-0 at County rivals Gloucester City.

Ciren hadn't forgotten the 5-0 mauling they suffered at Meadow Park last season, so revenge was particularly sweet.

Youngster James Blastland notched the decisive goal on 11 minutes.

Dave Godley caught Will Steadman in possession, and the ball rolled kindly for Blastland who fired home a rasping drive from the edge of the box.

The sides proceeded to cancel each other out in a tense midfield battle and a dull contest ensued.

Gloucester's best chance came early in the second half, when Luke Pringle's cross deflected off Andy Wollen onto the Ciren post and into the grateful grasp of Kev Sawyer.

The hosts threw a glut of bodies forward in search of a late equaliser, but Ciren's rearguard which was again brilliantly marshalled by Wollen held firm.

The win lifts Ciren to 13th in the table.

If their good run continues, a place on the fringes of the top six is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Cirencester: Sawyer, Knight (Goodwin), Bass (Clark), Horgan, Wollen, Minturn, Terry, Blastland, Godley, Mayo (Read), Holt

Swindon Supermarine travel to Cirencester this afternoon for the Easter derby.

Ciren have nothing to play for having long since secured their Western Division status.

Yet, since the pressure has been lifted, Ray Baverstock's side have strung together their best run of the season to climb within striking distance of the top ten.

With both sides winning well on Saturday, neither manager is likely to alter their starting line-ups.

Ciren are definitely the team in form, but with Dr Martens survival at stake, it's Marine who have the greater incentive.

The crucial clash kicks off at 3pm at Ciren's Smithsfield Stadium.
