MAY I reply to Miss B Packer's letter (Evening Advertiser, March 27). Is she aware I wonder, that works of Lowry and Moore are at present displayed in the art gallery?

Are these modern daubs to which she refers? Whom should she suggest selects work for the art gallery, a committee for art which will have the responsibility for burning anything not approved of? Hasn't this been done somewhere before?

I too remember, Miss Packer, when everything was much cheaper, when lavatories were outside, and few people had bathrooms. Can we not go back, please!

On a more serious note, I would like to express my thanks to councillors, both borough and parish, to school governors, and to anyone else who helps provide the glue which makes our society stick.

Councillors may not be perfect Miss Packer, and I'm sure they do waste some of my money, but I'd rather they did the job than me.
