THE only record to make the Christmas number one on two occasions has been voted top of the pops in Wiltshire.

Queen masterpiece Bohemian Rhapsody, penned by the irreplaceable Freddie Mercury, sits at the top of the 100 best songs of all time as voted for by people in the county.

The Evening Advertiser teamed up with BBC Wiltshire Sound and its sister newspapers, including the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, to establish the special chart.

At number two was Imagine by John Lennon, which went to number one following the former Beatle's death in 1981, and at number three was Angels by Robbie Williams.

Frank Sinatra's My Way was voted fourth favourite, and the number five spot was Yesterday by The Beatles.

Wiltshire Sound presenter Sandy Martin played the 100 tunes over the Easter weekend.

He said: "The response we had was fantastic. I've had so many people ask me if they can get a CD of the result!" As Elvis blasted Suspicious Minds over the airwaves (Number 35), Sandy added: "A total of 10,000 people voted it was a great success."

Sandy's own Number One, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, didn't make the line-up.

His second would have been Travis' Why Does It Always Rain On Me and, in third, he would have chosen Earth Wind and Fire's Boogie Wonderland.

"It was the first record I played at the Brunel Rooms in 1979," he added. "I called it Brunel Wonderland."
