DINGHY sailing, dowsing the ritual landscape and Egyptian dance they are all in a day's work at Swindon College.

The college has issued its new directory of adult courses, which combines conventional subjects with the more exotic and adventurous.

One of the latest additions to the directory is a two-day course discovering the sacred landscape of Avebury Henge through dowsing the earth energies and fissure systems that silently course through the region.

People can also become competent in sailing a dinghy safely on inland waters or get fit through the fluid and rhythmic movements of Egyptian dance.

A whole range of other courses designed to stimulate mind and body are available such as Tai Chi or yoga, both of which help induce calmness and reduce stress while developing physical strength and flexibility.

There are a number of different art and craft activities such as flower arranging, embroidery and pottery classes but people can also try their hand at arts that originate from other parts of the world.

Shisha or Indian mirror work embroidery, used to decorate clothing and home textiles, and Japanese folded Patchwork based on origami, will be introduced during one-day workshops in April.

More traditional courses in computing and languages continue to be available but in addition to French, German and Spanish, you can also gain language skills in Arabic, Polish and Russian.

Courses in computing are offered over a 10-week period and can lead to an externally recognised certificate.

The new Adult Learners Directory is available from Swindon College and Central Library.
