MANAGERS of a new radio station are gambling that Swindon is a hotbed of interest in swing, bebop, fusion and all that jazz.

Swindon 107FM unveiled its proposed jazz programme this week revealing shows devoted to this particular music type every night of the week.

The station goes live for its second month-long trial on June 29.

The station's backers are hopeful the Radio Authority will grant them a permanent licence some time next year, making it Swindon's first dedicated radio station.

Managing director Debbie Wheeler said: "We have very dedicated, locally-based, experienced jazz presenters who feel strongly about presenting this form of music to the people of Swindon, many of whom are jazz fans.

"Swindon 107FM has received many letters since the first trial broadcast, enthusing about the jazz programming and explaining how much it was enjoyed by many people of all ages.

"We are positive that they will not be disappointed this time around."

Shows will include Jazzy Affair with Dougie Gee, Future Jazz with Bryan Barrow, and Weekend Jazz from 10pm to midnight on Saturdays and Sundays.

Ray Butt will have two shows Jazz Unlimited on Tuesdays from 8pm to 10pm and Jazz Focus from 10am to 1pm.

An accomplished saxophone player during the 1960s, Ray auditioned for both Opportunity Knocks and New Faces with his band The Goodtimes.

He now runs Fretless and Friends a musical agency and still plays in various bands.
