DUCKS were set loose in Wroughton for the town's fifth annual duck race, in spite of the drizzly weather.

Yellow plastic ducks were floated along the River Ray to raise money for local community groups.

Three races took place one for adults, one for children and a pub challenge where there was a prize for the best-dressed duck.

The adult race was held in memory of Mike Smith, a local councillor who died last year. The event raised £1600 last year, which was distributed amongst local groups including Langton House, a day care centre for the elderly, Wroughton Pre-School, Wroughton Infant School, Tiny Tots Toddlers, Ellendune Community Centre and Wroughton Folk Dance Group.

Ros Grout, landlady of the Brown Jack, Priors Hill, helps organise the race and said that local group who want a share of this year's money should contact her on Swindon 812403.
