Chippenham Town are hoping to sign up former Bath City stalwart Colin Towler.
The 32-year-old defender was released from Twerton Park after City just survived relegation on the final day of the Dr Martens Premier Division season.
Tommy Saunders, boss of newly promoted Chippenham, has moved quickly to try and snap up the free agent, although he faces stiff competition from Weston-super-Mare.
Towler, Bath's captain and longest serving player with over 200 Conference and Southern League appearances, is seen as an ideal successor to Tiverton-bound Nathan Rudge.
Towler said: "I'm having preliminary talks with Tommy at the moment, and a move to Chippenham is a big possibility."
