Some time on March 20, 2002 I lost my annual season ticket for use between Swindon and Reading. The cost of this ticket is approximately £3,000.
I informed the offices at Swindon station and was told that as it was a season ticket it was quite likely that it would be handed in.
I was advised to purchase tickets for a few days and any money I did spend could be refunded.
I was not told, however, until three days later, that I should have retained my tickets, as without these I would not be able to have my refund.
The unfortunate thing about this is that Reading has automatic barriers which retain the tickets.
I was therefore only able to provide some tickets and have been informed that I will be provided with vouchers to cover the balance.
Clearly the prospect of having to spend more time on the train to use up the vouchers fills me with dread and despite being promised both a refund and vouchers I am still awaiting both.
The moral of the story is, of course, don't lose your season ticket. But if you do, don't listen to any of the advice given to you at Swindon station get the replacement straight away!
