We were delighted to read (Evening Advertiser, 2 May 2) of the expected imminent release of Aung San Suu Kyi from house arrest in Burma, and hope that the regime's new-found sense of fairness will extend to the many thousands of her supporters who are also in prison.
For the past three years we have been campaigning for the release of U Nyan Thaung, who is serving a seven-year sentence for allowing his office to be used for a party meeting.
It is a shame, but perhaps after all no bad thing, that we take our political freedoms so for granted that many do not even bother to exercise them here.
