Division One promoted sides Burbage and Biddestone both lost their opening fixtures, but in widely differing manners.
Burbage entertained Calne and collapsed to their lowest ever league score of just 44 all out, Chris Downham with 6-4 in six overs doing most of the damage. Calne went on to win comfortably by nine wickets.
Meanwhile at Potterne the runs flowed as the home side racked up 300-4 thanks to an unbroken fifth- wicket stand of 200 between Sam Gaiger's fine 170 and Phil Oliver 34 not out (aided by 60 extras), with the last six overs yielding 109 runs.
In reply Biddestone also scored well with Alan Hunt 87 not out and Alan Low 36, but they could never quite match the asking rate, closing on 233-6.
Westinghouse visited Nalgo and with Paul Bailey making 46, totalled 168-9 with Steve Metcalf taking 5-54 in 14 overs. John Cleverley responded with 6-9 in a mean 10 overs as Nalgo subsided to 68 all out, with Shaz Khan 34 not out.
Bath Civil Service scored 175-7 at home to Buscot Park with Richard Carlin 49 and Chris Addey 38, and Mark Heasman taking 3-34 in 14 overs for Buscot. In reply they were bowled out for 103 with Garry Thomson (38) top scoring as Simon Ellerman took 3-28 in nine overs.
Division Two
Great Bedwyn visited Minety and gained a five-wicket win. Chris Blundy took 4-20 in 12 overs as, despite 48 from Jon Lutwiche, Minety were bowled out for 102. Bedwyn's win came with 10 overs to spare.
Swindon Civil Service travelled to Highworth and scored 194-7 before bowling their hosts out for 100. Promoted Collingbourne and Nationwide House both started with victories. Ben Doherty took 6-21 in 13.1 overs for Collingbourne as they bowled visiting Sutton Veny out for 81. Tom Edmunds (45) then set up a comfortable nine-wicket victory.
At Cooper-Avon Tyres a league best 138 from Mark Vincent of Nationwide set them on the way to 211-7. Steve Lewis then took 6-70 in 12.3 overs as, despite Dave Lite's 60 and Darren Perrin's 41, Cooper-Avon were dismissed for 180 with three balls remaining.
Division Three
Dauntsey Gentlemen kicked off their Division campaign with a five-wicket win at Bathford.
On a difficult wicket, the home side were put in and bowled out for 110, resistance coming from Paul Merrett, who scored 42.
For Dauntsey Alan Baldwin made a welcome return to first team duty with 6-30 from seven overs of accurate medium pace.
Dauntsey then scored the required runs in 38 overs, thanks to a gutsy 38 from Gav Walter, ably supported by the solid middle order.
Cherhill visited Moredon Royal Oak and were bowled out for 124, Al Welling (31) top scoring as John Barnes took 5-31 in his 15 overs. Moredon were then bowled out for 96 to lose by 28 runs.
At Wanborough, visiting Urchfont won a high-scoring encounter by four wickets. Nick Stacey (81) and Paul Sore (47) helped Wanborough to 207-9 with Alan Crouch bowling well to take 3-25 in 15 overs. Paul Slater (53) and Nicky Brooks (88) then helped Urchfont to their target with seven balls to spare.
Division Four
Mildenhall visited promoted Corsham 3rd and scored 172-7 with Graham Giles 71. Terry Rogers took 3-23 in seven overs. John Gale 67 and Pete Greenwood 41 then saw Corsham to a six- wicket victory.
Wroughton Wranglers won comfortably at Coates who they dismissed for 99 after totalling 175 all out themselves. Blunsdon entertained Ramsbury and bowled them out for 114 with Dave Russell 56 not out and Darren Fisher taking 4-38. John Hancock, with 66 not out, then helped Blunsdon to an easy nine- wicket win.
Division Five
Newcomers Avebury made an impressive start to their campaign as they raced to the day's highest score of 310-6 with Henry Fry (101), Dominic Fry (75) and Greg Dicks (55) all in form. Robert Gator then took 3-12 in nine overs as visiting Chippenham 3rd were bowled out for 109.
United Churches reached 212-8 with Richard Tong (42) top scoring before Neil Lang took 4-32 in 15 overs to help dismiss visiting Burbage 2nd for 171 with two balls left.
Division Six
Promoted Lacock bowled visiting Goatacre 3rd out for just 46 with Neil Ballinger (5-11 in 15 overs) and John Heath (4-21 in six) doing the damage, and Lacock knocking the runs off in 12 overs for the loss of one wicket.
Litten Tree scored 189-6 thanks to Colin Blake's 102 not out at home to Box 2nd. Julian Brown (3-13 in five overs) and Mark Brown (3-3 in 10 balls) then bowled Box out for their lowest ever league total, just 29, of which Richard Gray hit 17 not out.
Division Seven
promoted Nationwide House 2nd entertained Dauntsey Gentlemen 2nd. Fine bowling by Steve Lewis (5-28 in 12.3 overs) and Chris Trewhella (5-32 in 12) had the visitors in for an early tea as they slumped to 63 all out, only Bill Scotfield with 22 offering much resistance. A quickfire 43 from Mark Tuton then saw Nationwide to an eight-wicket victory in just 16 overs.
Nationwide followed this up with a comprehensive nine-wicket win against Bradford 3rd. Bradford made a respectable 143 all out, with Vince Edwards 69, as Andy Lewis took 5-36 in 12 overs. Ian Vardon (74 not out) and Mark Tuton (44 not out) then steered Nationwide home.
Wootton Bassett 3rd scored 249-3 at home to Bath Civil Service 2nd, who they restricted to 190-6.
Division Eight
Club records tumbled at Beehive Bradford as they rattled up their highest league score of 273-6 against visiting Bathford 2nd.
This was mainly thanks to Micky Swan, who hit a belligerent 158 despite Brian Sutton taking 3-44 in his 15 overs. The visitors then reached 101-9, Vince Hamley with 3-20.
Devizes 4th crashed to 55 all out against visiting United Churches 2nd, for whom Chris Sharpe did the damage. He took 8-29 in 10 overs, including a hat-trick, and Churches went on to a nine-wicket win.
Dauntsey Gentlemen are looking for new players to bolster their ranks.
