COLUMN: AS A FORUM for lavatorial concern, the Bath Star's toilet spy this week attended the ladies' toilets in Homebase at Green Park Bath, on the orders of a very unhappy customer.

A concerned reader, who wished to remain anonymous, said the ladies cubicles at the DIY store were woefully small and would be very difficult to navigate for the less able or for those of larger build.

So we sent our female toilet spy to check them out...

Number of cubicles: Two

Washing facilities: Two handbasins.

Bouquet: Faced with the prospect of returning home with an over-eager house husband plus various paints and chemicals that are sure to stink out the house, this toilet smells fine. Although no way near the standard set elsewhere in Bath (stand up Royal Crescent Hotel), the ladies' at Homebase is not to be sniffed at.

Lighting: Reasonable.

Decor: Basic. All white odd considering the range of magentas and cyans on offer throughout the store.

Worth a visit? Ah, well here's the catch. Toilet of the Week is now seriously considering introducing a new section under the moniker 'Moveability' following our visit here. For the average-sized person (yes, please send in your letters) this would be vaguely discomforting, but for the bigger lady this, as our tip-off told us, would be an utter nightmare. The cubicle is narrow and the door is so close to the basin that you may need to don some knee pads before spending a penny.

So if you feel that you are on the rotund side then we suggest you spend an extra few moments on the lav at home before setting off on that all important Sunday-morning trip to Homebase to stock up on paint pots and pocket-sized screwdriver kits.
