AIRDRIE'S unhappy demise has sent a big shiver down football's spine.
The liquidation of the Scottish side is a sharp wake-up call to those who spout 'it will never happen'.
It can happen and it has happened! Indeed, the ITV Digital fiasco has meant it is even more likely to happen.
Hopefully, Airdrie will prove a tragic but isolated incident but don't bank on it.
Closer to home, everyone has their fingers crossed that Town will emerge from administration successfully.
The next hurdle for the club is to secure a way forward with the creditors. A fresh CVA (Company Voluntary Arrangement) will provide the club with a route to recovery.
So much rides on the successful outcome of the meeting.
If the creditors reject the deal, then the club is dead in the water.
Everyone has fingers and toes crossed that that does not happen.
Andy King's hopes of building a strong squad for next season are also hanging on the outcome of that meeting.
Until the club pulls clear of administration, King is not going to be able to sign anyone.
And the danger is that while the club remains in limbo, the players he really wants will slip through his fingers (Andy Gray being the classic example).
It is an anxious time but the vibes coming from the County Ground seem quite positive.
And as Swindon Town have come to discover, you take nothing for granted when it comes to this football club.
Seeing Airdrie go under fills you with that mixture of emotions. You feel sad for the club and their fans but a sense of relief that it isn't yours.
I hope we never have to endure the commiserations of the football world!
CLEARLY the board and the administrator are worried that fans might get bored during the summer!
The impending court case against Danny Donegan and company looks likely to be a bitter affair.
It would clearly be very unwise for me to make any sort of comment about the matter. All I can say is that I hope the assurances given that it will not jeopardise the future of the club prove accurate.
