NORTH Wiltshire District Council adopted a new constitution this week.
Last July the district council formally adopted a Leader and Cabinet style of council as part of the Government's efforts to modernise local government.
Members now have to adopt a draft constitution.
The district council leader will be able to appoint up to ten members to the executive committee from across the political parties, as part of the new constitution.
Council leader, Coun David Packham, said: "We see this as an important development in the process of democracy in North Wiltshire. This council has been one of the leaders in implementing a modernised democratic process."
