AN ancient tradition was re-enacted by Minety Pre-school on Thursday when children performed dances on May Day.
The 24 children, clutching red and yellow ribbons, all dressed in bright colours, skipped around a tree in the grounds, watched by more than 30 parents.
While half were doing the Maypole routine, the other half were dancing with hoops they had made and decorated.
"They were brilliant and it looked very colourful," said pre-school supervisor Jennie White.
She said the children had been practising all week for the traditional dance.
Even a sudden downpour half an hour before the show failed to dampen spirits.
Now the pre-school, which last year was awarded the Government's Charter Mark Award for excellence in care within the community, is gearing up for its open week.
The week takes place between June 17-22.
