AS part of its remit to flood the region with learning opportunities and to make adult learning opportunities accessible to rural communities and to businesses in Wiltshire, the Lifelong Learning Partnership has officially launched its first two purpose-built Mobile Learning Units (MLU).
Each unit is fitted with 13 state-of-the-art PC work stations for IT instruction and is linked by satellite communication to provide access to the internet.
The MLU's will also provide other learning opportunities in response to specific local demand and are linked to both local and national Job-Search facilities.
Before releasing helium balloons to signify Learning on the Move to signify the launch, Sir Jeremy Moore, formerly Commander Land Forces in the Falklands said: "In my retirement, I very much appreciated the opportunity to benefit from a course in computers provided by the college in the village hall where I live.
"There is a huge requirement for learning opportunities to be made more accessible not just for retired people and not just in computers, but in a variety of subjects and for any adult who is unable to travel to the colleges."
George Bright principal of Wiltshire College, said: "The superb learning environment provided by these comfortable, light and airy units plus the up-to-the-minute flat screen PC's will undoubtedly give a further incentive to people to take up a learning opportunity."
