MELKSHAM Town cemented a top ten Premier Division finish on Monday afternoon as they defeated Yeovil Town Reserves 4-0.

Matty Bown's brace and singles from Dean Ranger and Matty Messenger saw Robbie Lardner's men sign off for the summer in style against a side playing their final game in the Screwfix Direct League.

The triumph came hot on the heels of an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of rock bottom local rivals Westbury United at Meadow Lane on Friday.

The performance was described by manager Lardner as the worst he had witnessed in his time in charge at The Conigre, but kept alive Westbury's faint hopes of moving off the bottom of the table.

Those hopes were finally ended with Bristol Manor Farm's 3-0 win over Yeovil on Saturday, and promotion-chasing Taunton Town ended Westbury's three-match winning streak at Wordsworth Drive on Monday with victory by the same scoreline.

Taunton were least night hoping to clinch promotion to the Dr Martens League Western Division with a point in their final game of the season at home to mid-table Odd Down.

Last season's champions have trailed Bideford and Brislington for the majority of the campaign, but a draw in last night's home clash would send them up by virtue of their superior goal difference over the Bristol side.

The result will also have been of particular interest to Wiltshire strugglers Westbury and Warminster.

Taunton's promotion to the Dr Martens League seems the most likely saviour for both sides in their quest to avoid relegation from the Premier and First Division respectively.

A decision on the futures of both sides, along with Calne Town, was expected at a league management committee meeting last night. Another side looking anxiously at last night's final fixtures was Devizes Town. Anything other than a win for Dawlish at Paulton Rovers would secure a top five finish for Brian Newlands' men.
