MORE than 100 years of history will go on display in Amesbury this Saturday, when Amesbury town band stages an open day and "blow-in".

The special day is being held to mark the band's latest achievement - getting its own website.

Musicians with the band will be on hand at Antrobus House, Salisbury Road, throughout the day, ready to welcome new members and anyone who would like to have a go at playing a brass instrument or trying their hand on the drums.

Ray Brotherton said the band was in urgent need of new recruits, and staging an open day would give the public the chance to talk to members of the band and discover its history.

Mr Brotherton said: "There will be photographs from the 1890s through to the present day, and local people will be asked to fill in the gaps in identifying players in more recent photos so that this information can be included on the new website.

"In the afternoon, there will be a chance for visitors to sit in with the band for an impromptu rehearsal.

"We shall also welcome anyone who plays a wind instrument. Bring it along!

"The band exists to play music for enjoyment, and players of any age or ability, including complete beginners, are welcome.

"The only requirement is an enthusiasm to play and learn. Tuition and instruments are provided free."

The band's new website is at www.amesburytownband.org.uk.
