THE new owners of the Murco Garage on Oxford Road, in Calne, say business is up 25 per cent since they took over.

Jamie Punshen, 29, who lives opposite the garage, took it over with dad Bill, on March 3 from Tim Sheppard, who had owned it since it opened in November 1994.

Mr Punshen said diesel sales are up 59 per cent, and petrol sales are up 25 per cent, as are sales at its shop.

He put the increased sales down to a new approach, innovative ideas, and an increased range of products on offer.

"Looking at the increased business I don't think it's bad at all for the first two months," he said.

The shop employs four part-time staff, as well as Mr Punshen and his father, and he said if all goes well, he is hoping to take on another garage in Calne.

The Punshens are tenants at the garage, which is owned by petrol company, Murco.

He and his father owned Membrane Technology Ltd, on the Porte Marsh Industrial Estate, before selling it to Evans Graphics in 1997.

The garage is to be officially relaunched by MP Michael Ancram later this month.
