WORLD-FAMOUS children's author Dick King-Smith was at Calne's Fynamore School last week, reading to youngsters and talking of his experiences.
The author of The Sheep Pig, which spawned the Academy-nominated film Babe, travelled from his home between Bath and Bristol, to speak to children on Thursday.
His visit was part of the school's book week, which also included pupils dressing up as their favourite story-book characters and writing stories.
Year five and six teacher Cathy Williams said Mr King-Smith told the children why he became an author at 56 and his experiences in farming.
"The children were really very, very interested in everything Dick King-Smith had to say," she said.
Mrs Williams said he spent around 45 minutes with her class, after talking to year three and four children.
On the same day, children's author Mike Dickinson, who lives in Bradford on Avon, and wrote the book Danny's Birthday, read to reception class children.
Gillian Key, of Key Day Nursery, the Rev Philip Bromiley, of St Mary's Church, Calne, and Flt Lt David Jones, of RAF Lyneham, visited the school during the week to read to the children.
