THE crowning glory has finally been bestowed on the flower tubs in the centre of Rowde to celebrate the golden jubilee.

The gardening club in the village painted the three tubs green, but then asked locals Chris and Carole Morris to imprint a gold crown on them.

Mr Morris cut out a crown stencil and his wife stencilled the symbol on to the tubs.

But the golden theme will be taken a stage further because the club plans to plant marigolds to bloom in time for the golden jubilee weekend.

Meanwhile villagers are also gearing up for a jubilee celebration to remember.

The fun will start on June 3 with a cricket match between the men and women of the village. On June, 4 there is a a songs of praise service at St Matthew's Church followed by a fun run.

On the school playing field there will be a fancy dress and jubilee bonnet competitions and children's sports. In the evening Three Way Split will be playing live music.

Organiser Sue Cannings wants help with teas and the children's sports, and to hear from people wanting to enter a tug of war. She also needs a pianist. Contact her on (01380) 720937.
