PARENTS could be excused from thinking they were seeing double at Kennet Valley School last week because they were.

Pupils had been challenged to dress as the double of their hero on Thursday to raise money for the £15,000 Cash For Computers appeal being run by the school's friends group.

Among the most popular heroes of the younger children at the lower school site in Lockeridge were Harry Potter, James Bond, princesses and fairies while pop stars and footballers abounded at the upper school in East Kennett.

Double Day raised £894 in donations from parents, while pupils at the upper school raised another £70.50 during breaktime by selling cakes and crafts they had made themselves.

Headteacher Andrew Hodder, who joined the school at the start of the summer term, said he was delighted and praised the creativity of his pupils.

Alison Ingham, secretary of the friends group, said: "It is a fantastic amount to raise, and the children really enjoyed themselves as well."

The friends' appeal to raise money to equip a new computer suite scheduled to open at the upper school in the autumn term has also been boosted by an award of £100 from the GWR Christmas Appeal.
