Andy King is hoping that contract rebel Matt Hewlett commits himself to the club after the two met to thrash out terms yesterday.
Midfielder Hewlett had been holding out for a new three-year deal, but Town can only stretch to two years under the current contract structure.
But after yesterday's meeting, King is confident that a compromise can be reached.
"I've had a meeting with Matt Hewlett, and it went well," said the Town manager.
"I expect him to come back to me with a positive response in the next couple of days."
