SWINDON Town have confirmed Wimbledon as guests at the County Ground for a pre-season warm-up on Saturday, July 27.
The Division 1 club managerless following the recent sacking of Terry Burton will visit Wiltshire for the first time since a friendly two years ago, when the Dons ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Colin Todd's Town side.
A home clash with opposition from a higher division should whet the appetite of supporters eager for the new campaign resulting in a decent summer turn-out at the County Ground and some much-needed revenue.
With Town looking to arrange a mini Scotland tour in mid-July, the Wimbledon showdown will be sandwiched by games against less glamourous non-League opposition.
It has been announced that Town will travel to the Isle of White on July 20, to take on Dr Martens Eastern Division outfit Newport.
Hellenic League Wantage are to host Andy King's troops on July 31.
Town hope to unveil four more friendly fixtures shortly, with boss King expected to call on old pal Peter Reid for a potential clash with Sunderland on August 3.
King's links with Reid could be used to further good effect, with the Black Cats' boss willing to send Scotland under 21 starlet Kevin Kyle to the County Ground on loan.
The promising 20-year-old striker received a surprise call-up to the Scottish senior squad yesterday, and could prove the short-term answer to King's search for a goalscorer.
But any deal, along with a potential friendly between the clubs will depend on whether Reid can keep his Sunderland in the Premiership and retain his job at the Stadium of Light.
Existing holders will be given first refusal on executive season tickets for the new campaign.
The club has sent renewal packs to the 2001/2002 holders, and any tickets that aren't renewed will be made available on general sale.
