THE National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children is the UK's leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children.
The organisation, founded by the Reverend Benjamin Waugh, has been directly involved in protecting children and campaigning on their behalf since 1884.
It is the only UK children's charity with statutory powers that enable it to take action to safeguard children at risk of abuse.
The NSPCC exists to end cruelty to children and to work towards a society in which all children are loved, valued and able to fulfil their potential.
The NSPCC employs 1,800 people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and has 17,000 Community Appeals volunteers.
The NSPCC runs a child protection helpline providing confidential advice and support: 0808 800 5000.
