A MAN has appeared before magistrates charged with the murder of Trowbridge father Paul Rodgers.

Leigh Page, 29, of Magnolia Rise, went before North West Wiltshire Magistrates in Chippenham charged with stabbing Mr Rodgers to death in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A post mortem examination carried out at Southmead Hospital in Bristol confirmed 32-year-old Mr Rodgers, of Mead Court, North Bradley, died from a single stab wound which penetrated the heart.

Police were called to Broadcloth Lane at around 3am on Sunday and immediately sealed off the estate.

Forensic scientists were drafted in and police search teams scoured the area for evidence.

Flowers and personal tributes from Mr Rodger's family and friends have been laid at the place where he died. He was a well-known pool player in Trowbridge and worked as a field sales executive for the Evening Advertiser's sister newspaper the Wiltshire Times in 1995.

Page, who only spoke to confirm his name and address, was remanded in custody until May 14 when he will appear at Bristol Crown Court.
