A SECOND bid to build a nursing home and sheltered accommodation in Westbury was being considered by councillors, on Thursday, May 9.
Applicant, CCMS Ltd, applied last December to construct a 30-bedroomed nursing home with 52 sheltered flats at the Coalyard in Church Street but the plans were turned down on the grounds of access and parking.
Now the applicant has lodged a revised plan for a 20-bedroomed nursing home with 56 flats.
The new plan sees the number of storeys reduced from three to two and the applicant has also modified the roof type.
The Coalyard is in the Westbury conservation area. An unlisted barn stands on the site.
According to the new plans the area fronting Bratton Road will house the main entrance and the road will be devoted to access, via a mini roundabout. The plans also include 38 parking spaces.
Westbury Town Council has opposed the new plan, saying the site will be overdeveloped.
Members also felt that while extra parking was welcome the fact that there was no designated staff parking may lead to more congestion on surrounding roads.
A spokesman for West Wiltshire District Council said: "The reasons recommended for refusal by the Highway Authority are endorsed, but if this application is refused the applicants may appeal against either or both refusals."
