AFTER a top-half finish last season Winsley stumbled to defeat against Hanham on the opening day of the 2002 campaign.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, Hanham made good early progress before John Spencer finally made the breakthrough.
From that point wickets began to fall at regular intervals with the line and length bowling of Pete Orchard causing the biggest damage.
He took four wickets in a consistent spell of 12 overs.
Martin Thomas chipped in with 2-18 from his 12 overs and after a late flurry from Poole, Hanham finished their innings of 116 all out from 43 overs.
The Winsley reply began badly as Spencer was out lbw and his opening partner Jenkins was bowled.
There was brief hope for Winsley while Robbie Cross (15) and Kunal More (20) were at the crease but with both soon departing a combination of unfortunate decisions and an under par batting performance left Winsley 54 all out from just 21 overs.
Winsley's 2nds enjoyed much better fortune as they triumphed in the return fixture at Hanham.
John Fear top scored with 33 as Winsley won off the penultimate ball with Simon Orchard hitting the winning runs.
In their next fixture Winsley 1st team travel to Claverham on Saturday with the 2nds in the reverse fixture.
