DESPITE an unexpected change in venue, The Wiltshire County Show will go ahead this weekend.

The show, which has been held at Lords Hill, Longbridge Deverill, for the past five years should have been held at Corsley this year. Due to safety concerns it will now be held at the Woodlands Showground, Frome.

Organiser David McCance said: "Changing the venue has made life very hectic for us but the show is still going ahead and we have still got lots going on.

"We are sad that we will not have the air show but there just wasn't time to sort out the relevant approval. We will make sure that it goes ahead next year and we have agreed to hold the show in Frome annually from now on."

The change in venue also spells a change in name. What was the Wiltshire County Show will now be known as the Wessex County Show.

Mr McCance said: "It's funny really as the field that we are using is half in Wiltshire and half in Somerset, so we've decided to have a name change as well."

Despite the problems, the organisers have still received a lot of support.

"Believe it or not we have had support from people in Corsley as well as from the general public," said Mr McCance.

Attractions include the Solent Dog Display and a team of skydivers. There will also be the popular arena battle between cowboys and knights.

The show needs to make a profit after two successive years of loss.

Mr McCance said: "We have lost money and we do need to make money at this show for the charity."

The Warminster-based Imperial Cancer charity, which funds trips for elderly and disabled people as well as a range of variety shows, needs to raise at least £14,000.

Last year's show was marred by the foot-and-mouth crisis. It had to be moved from May to September.

This weekend's show will be open from 10am until midnight on Saturday and from 10am until 6pm on Sunday.

Prices are £7 per day for adults and £3.50 for children and pensioners. A family ticket for two adults and two children costs £18.
