SCREWFIX DIRECT LEAGUE: DEREK Graham put one over on his old club as rock bottom Westbury United inflicted local rivals Melksham Town's heaviest defeat of the campaign on Friday night.

Former Conigre assistant boss Graham said: "We played them off the park. We were all over them and it could have been more in the end.

"It is lovely to win against another local team and it was their heaviest defeat of the season.

The run extended Westbury's winning trot to three matches and Graham felt confidence had been a major factor in his side's win.

He said: "We've been playing well lately. We're starting to score goals now and Wayne Wheeler coming back has helped.

"He ran Melksham ragged at the back, and it was a shame he didn't get himself on the scoresheet."

Melksham boss Robbie Lardner, without several key first team players for the clash, could not hide his disappointment at the embarrassing scoreline.

He said: "On the night we were awful. We made a few individual errors and were poor up front.

"It was the worst performance we've put on since I've been manager at the club. We didn't offer anything.

"I could give plenty of excuses about having players missing, but the side that went out there was more than capable of beating them.

"But Westbury did have something to play for, while we didn't and sometimes that's the way it goes at the end of the season."

United's first goal was a penalty given after a challenge between Tony Colbourne and visiting keeper Darren Chitty. Steve Perkins scored with ease.

Colbourne scored the second on the stroke of half time, his fifth in four games, when Ben Sammut's deep cross eluded Melksham's static defence and Colbourne put the ball past Chitty.

In the 66th minute Colbourne sent a ball forward for Wayne Wheeler but Matt Burton beat him to the ball and sent a great strike past Chitty from outside the box for the third goal. The final goal was the best of all as Craig Doughty found himself with just Chitty to beat from 35 yards and he lobbed the ball in with perfection.
