PEOPLE interested in tracing their family history can get vital help from experts at Trowbridge museum on saturday, May 11.

Members of the Wiltshire Family History Society will be on hand to give help and advice on a pastime that is growing in popularity.

Museum curator, Clare Lyall, said: "For many people, looking into their family history is something they have always wanted to do but have never got around to it.

"Here they will be able to get simple guidelines on how to start."

The event is the culmination of a week-long family history display at the museum.

The exhibition gives a fascinating look into life in the past, shown through records and pictures from years gone by.

Last Saturday a panel of experts, including an archaeologist and local library staff, tried to identify objects brought in by members of the public.

Mrs Lyall said: "It was a good day. Some people brought bits and pieces in and others came in to chat about what they had found.

"There weren't any Ming vases, but it was good fun."

Over the half-term week the museum will have a 'Where were you in '52?' display that will allow people to see what life was like in the year the Queen came to the throne.

This will be followed at the end of June and beginning of July with an exhibition called Hidden Treasures, which will include a mock-up of a 1950s living room.

The family history experts will be on hand at the museum tomorrow from 10am until 4pm.
