TROWBRIDGE Lions held their traditional May Fair in Trowbridge at the weekend helping to raise thousands of pounds for local charities.
Members turned out in force to man the Lions' own bric-a-brac stall, joining 21 other stalls run by charities such as the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and Cancer Research.
A round of goodies from books to toys and CDs to ornaments were on offer as people from throughout Trowbridge flocked to the fair, on Fore Street, to hunt out a bargain.
The crowds were entertained not only by the glorious summer weather but also by jugglers, a Punch and Judy show and a performance from local comedy group the Majorwrecks.
The fair, opened by the mayor of Bath and Lions president Bill Cooke, also gave Staverton School in Trowbridge the chance to test out its new maypole, in the most perfect of settings.
Organisers said the day was a huge success.
Lion Rick Jotcham said: "It was a beautiful day. We had many people who came over to pick up some bargains and also to enjoy a classic local fair.
"We raised £450 ourselves for local charities, whilst the other stalls, we believe, will have raised thousands of pounds between them."
