A CHARITABLE trust set up to send a Trowbridge cerebral palsy sufferer for treatment in Hungary is closing after 17 years.

The trust was set up for David Webb to enable him to get specialist treatment at the Peto Institute in Hungary but is now closing because he has reached the age of 18.

Fundraising efforts over the years have been featured in the Wiltshire Times and involved a range of community groups including Wiltshire firefighters, Bath University students and Young Farmers.

David now hopes to live independently and wants to go to university to read history after completing his A levels.

Valerie Twiggs, was an organiser of the Conigre Mother and Toddler group before it closed two years ago.

She has been involved in fundraising since David and his mother Jayne attended her group and was also a trustee of the fund.

She said: "I wish to sincerely thank all those people who contributed towards the David George Webb Trust.

"The story began in 1985 when the former Conigre Mother and Toddler group fundraised in order for David, one of the children to attend the Peto Institute in Hungary.

"So many people became involved and so much enthusiasm was generated by the people of Trowbridge and the outlying communities, that David was able to attend the Peto Institute eight times.

"Throughout the time the trust was running, David was equipped with many practical but essential items that have enabled him to increase his independence.

"I hold many fond memories of events that took place when fundraising was at its optimum.

The trust has recently closed because David is now eighteen years of age.

"As this chapter closes another one for David will open in September when he hopes to go to university following his A-levels. I wish him success for the future."
