HYUNDAI has promised to find a dealership in Swindon "sooner rather than later" after the closure of Swindon Hyundai in Kennedy Drive, Eldene, last month.

The building has stood empty since representatives from Henley-based Valley Motor Group closed it on Friday, April 12, because it was operating at a loss.

The Swindon branch, variously known as Whichford Hyundai, Valley Hyundai and more recently, Swindon Hyundai, was the only Hyundai dealership in the town.

Hyundai spokesman Rodney Kumar said: "Things are moving towards appointing a new dealer in Swindon and we hope to make an announcement sooner rather than later.

"It's very important for Hyundai to have a presence in a town the size of Swindon.

"Hyundai is a growing brand and it has always been our intention to introduce another dealership.

"The last dealership fell through because our rate of progress and theirs differed it was their decision to close."

Valley Motors' group director, Jim McPeake, said that when he had discussions with Hyundai about relinquishing the franchise more than two months ago, it was agreed that Hyundai would write to all customers and advise them where servicing facilities were available.
