POLICE have interviewed four children in connection with a fire which gutted part of a housing development next to New College.
The youths, who are not being named, are aged between nine and 15 and have been released after helping police with their enquiries.
Flames tore through the semi-complete three storey building last Friday evening and firefighters were hard pressed to prevent it spreading to other semi-complete buildings on the Crest Nicholson development next to the New College site in Whitbourne Avenue.
And because of the intensity of the fire, they had to douse nearby occupied homes with water to prevent heat damage.
It is thought the cost of the damage will run in thousands of pounds and will set back building work months.
A total of four fire engines, from Westlea, Swindon and Stratton were called to tackle the fire.
Anyone with information should contact Detective Constable Emily Matthews from Swindon CID on Swindon 528111.
