UTILITY forward Mark Gabey bows out as a Bath player tomorrow but not before helping the club try to avoid huge embarassment.

The 28-year-old Australian has signed a two-year deal with National League side Worcester and will leave to join the up-and-coming Sixways club following the conclusion of the Zurich Premiership season.

But the former Queensland Reds star has some unfinished business at the Rec first that of trying to prevent Bath suffering the ignominy of finishing last in rugby's top flight.

The threat of relegation may have been lifted by Rotherham's exclusion earlier this week but Bath are desperately keen to avoid total humiliation in front of their own fans, against a Wasps side eyeing a Heineken Cup place.

A win over the London side would at least prevent the ailing giants from sinking to the basement, but defeat would leave open that possibility, depending on Leeds result against Gloucester, who thrashed Bath 68-12 last weekend.

Injuries mean team director Michael Foley has no option but to stick largely with the same team that suffered at Kingsholm.

"We were levelled by Gloucester, and it is a bitter pill that everyone has to swallow when you are on the end of a smashing like that,'' Foley said.

"The group has needed to be honest with each other after such a performance, and we've also spoken one-on-one with quite a few of the players.''

He added: "There's an element of self-motivation too. Each of them had their pride dented last weekend.''

Wasps have added rugby league legend Martin Offiah to their bench for the clash, which kicks off at 3pm.
