SWINDON'S showpiece railway museum, Steam, was the only UK museum to be specially commended by judges in this year's prestigious European Museum of The Year awards.
The Chester Beatty Library in Dublin won the overall title at the ceremony in Luxembourg on Saturday.
But Steam beat the six other UK entrants, including the new Ondaatje Wing of the National Portrait Museum and the Highland Folk Museum in Scotland.
