Re: Proposed street festival in Wootton Bassett
Local traders, myself included, object to the street festival being held on a Saturday, which without question is the busiest trading day of the week.
This will have a severely detrimental effect on trade.
There would be very little, if any, objection to a festival or a road closure on a Sunday.
The town clerk's statement that 220 letters have been sent to traders is correct, I am sure. He has failed to mention that the vast majority of the 220 letters sent were to companies and businesses outside of the High Street, or who don't open on Saturdays.
I look forward, with sceptical interest, to the town council's attempts to alleviate the traders' concerns.
If the council proceeds with its plans, I, for one, will not open my shop on that day.
