THE Dr Martens season has only just finished but Supermarine manager John Murphy is already making waves in the transfer market, with Ian Howell brother of Swindon golf pro David top of the wish list.
Murphy has wasted no time in his attempts to build a competitive Western Division squad, and is close to sealing deals for Howell and utility man Leigh White.
Both will discuss terms with Murphy when they attend a specially organised post-season training session this week.
Howell, was recently at Premier Division Bath City, and is set to be drafted in as a player coach.
Former Bristol City trainee White spent several seasons at Weston-super-Mare, but has been frozen out following the arrival of manager Frank Gregan.
Both played under Murphy at Cheltenham during his successful spell as manager of the Division 2 new boys.
Murphy is confident that the duo will bolster a squad which narrowly avoided the drop last month.
He said: "Ian has extensive experience at this level, and will offer a coaching option, although his duties will predominantly be as a player.
"Leigh is a quality midfielder-cum-defender who is still in his mid 20s but has played more than 200 times at this level with Weston."
The Hunts Copse targets will link up with their potential new team-mates on Wednesday, when the current squad will attend the first of a series of stretching sessions.
Two as yet unnamed players will also be invited.
Murphy and his backroom staff have introduced the new routine after concerns over frequent injuries to key players over the past few months.
Murphy said: "I have spoken to four players so far, at least two of which Ian and Leigh will join us for stretching this week.
"We had major injuries to big players at the end of the season, so we have decided to introduce these sessions every two to three weeks throughout the summer as a precaution.
"Players like Paul Donnelly, Marc Richards and Lea James have been struggling with persistent problems, and we are doing this for them."
