PETER Finch punched his wife in the face after he had too much to drink, magistrates heard.
Finch, 44, of Fosse Close, Cirencester, admitted assaulting Maria Finch on April 20.
He also pleaded guilty to a further charge of assaulting Mrs Finch's 17-year-old-son on the same day.
Prosecutor Dennis Scully said that Mrs Finch was in bed at her home when her husband knocked on the door and carried out the attacks.
Defending, Alison Fielden said the couple had had a row before the incident.
"Normally if Mr Finch has too much to drink, Mrs Finch will talk to him when he is sober.
"On this occasion he had had more to drink than usual and the usual tactics didn't work."
Magistrates sentenced Finch to a 12-month conditional discharged.
