CHURCHES in Swindon have got together to launch a community radio station with a Christian flavour.
Flame FM was officially launched yesterday by the Bishop of Swindon, Michael Doe, and Canon Michael Johnson of Wroughton.
Swindon Churches Together, a cross denominational group, is running the station 24 hours a day for the next four weeks.
Barbara Aftelak, the group's secretary, said: "It's community radio with a Christian flavour. It won't all be Christian, the content will probably be about fifty-fifty.
"We have a full programme scheduled for people playing everything from Christian jazz and dance music to more secular stuff."
By tuning into 106.8, people in Swindon will be able to listen to the station which is being run by a team of 30 volunteers.
The launch party, which took place at the Bath Road Methodist Church, included live music from the Christian group New Creation. Swindon Churches Together raised funds to buy the broadcasting equipment two years ago when they originally set up Flame FM as part of a Millennium project.
You can contact the radio station on two lines. The phone-in-line is Swindon 719436 and the number for the office is 719443.
